TV Series Face Off: Once Upon a Time or Grimm?

If you’re a fantasy-themed television series aficionado, would it be Grimm or Once Upon a Time? And by the way, this week’s just in time for the next episode of the latter, that is, Once Upon a Time Season 1 Episode 4: The Price of Gold on November 13, 2011. Of course, the two television series bring that kind of impact which will make your toes curl with so much excitement and make you drool at the thought of your childhood fairy tales finally coming back to the screen, so, it’s one heck of a milestone that two similarly themed shows would air in real time and coexisting amicably on primetime. If you’re a connoisseur for fairytales, what would it be? Grimm? Once Upon a Time?

You have seen so many face-offs in the history of television and show business. And it’s not far-fetched to see a face-off of two of the most sought-after fantasy television series in primetime today, let us try to do our very best to determine who does what better. It’s up to you, our good-looking and intelligent readers to help us declare a winner. It’s not easy to pry these two television series apart, Grimm and Once Upon a Time but we can find ways to get around it for sure, thank you very much. Well, what do you think? Which show yields more success in bringing fairy tales closer to its fans on television, Once Upon a Time or Grimm?

For one thing, Once Upon a Time was freshly based on the world of your childhood fairy tales, where Snow White could always be Snow White and the Evil Queen will always be great a villain as hell. You may even say that it follows the concept of Disneyland after dark, you know, those intricate get-ups, theater style makeup (thank you Makeup Forever!) and that flawless acting as every actor disappears into their characters. What’s nice is that, you get to see dwarves yielding their swords and actual, occasionally gruesome witch fights. But on the contrary, are we getting a little too old for fairy tales as childish as these? no matter how busy or acquainted with fairytales you are, just don’t forget the next episode of the show, Once Upon a Time Season 1 Episode 4: The Price of Gold.

On the other hand, the competing television series Grimm has a choice of incorporating fairy tales into the real world by stating that these old stories are actually real, thus, creating a world where fairy tale creatures coexist with humans, and good and evil live in secret, lost in a sea of normal, everyday people. Needless to say, the television series presents the show in a creepy, gruesome as well, and eerie alt-art way, totally different from the pop culture interpretations brought by Disney among others. On the other side of the story, we still get to see these stunning artistic interpretations of fairy tales mixed with detective fiction and the real world as well. Not to mention the general idea of fairy tales as legit folklore that result to real-world scare. Like the heroes actually interact with fairytales. But then the fairy tale creatures don’t necessarily adhere to the classics as we know them, so what’s the point exactly?

Avid viewers, the power to decide is still on you, so bring it on and leave your comment below. And don’t forget, this week’s save the date: Once Upon a Time Season 1 Episode 4: The Price of Gold.
